Updates from the Homefront...

Another hot and humid day. We have purchased all the windows now, after finding several bargains at "The Lumber Farm." The are over in Spring Valley and feature tons of slightly damaged or mis-measured, etc. type windows and doors. After looking for about an hour we actually found one for the kitchen (over the sink area) that is manufactured by the same company as all our others, so the cladding on the outside will match! What luck...
But the humidity is dampening more than our spirits these days. It will mess with the paint, so I can't start painting the three front doors, or anything else. Even the lady at the paint store said to wait.
The stonecutter is coming tomorrow! Yikes!!!! He's going to cost a fortune, but his skill is necessary to make the kitchen window area larger and also cut out the holes for the back door and the porch (not there yet) door. Hopefully it will be a small, quick job for him and he won't actually cost as much as his estimate. Keep your fingers crossed.
Upstairs they have cut through all the beams. Yes, yes...we had an engineer look at it and the way he recommended is perfectly all right, if not even stronger. Anyhow, there is now a hallway from end to end up there and we have two long skinny windows to install over the front doorway to allow a bit of natural light and air for that end bedroom area. It is about 6 feet- 1 inch, at mid-hallway, so some of the guys will have to stoop a bit. It looks totally different and I'll try to get some pics of it somehow.

The Porch has been a Popular Place...

Dad and I had to take a few days off to recover and also to produce another church dinner. The Cat is shedding like mad and it makes it difficult to pet or play with her, because you get covered.

The Rains have Brought Miracles...

Such a wonderful year for the Wisconsin farmers! This is Jerry's corn, right here down by Steve Braker's corner, and as you can see it is way over my head and already tasseling out. Likewise, all other crops in the area are also doing very well. A few fields have standing water that has taken out and swamped crops in their corners and along stream banks, etc . But it is hardly enough to comment on, and I don't think that the farmers are all that distressed about it.
There are more ducks and geese about, the cranes are also out in the fields snitching as fast as they can. The owls have been hooting a lot during the nights and seem to be very happy this year.
The Mama Doe only has one fawn this year. That is a miracle for us, but I can't help but wonder of the doe is simply a youngish one, or did something happen to the other twin?

Are You Going to Throw the Ball or Just...

Another Good Sabbath and more Rain...

The speakers at church were good today and the whole day seemed linked together with the lessons and subject matter, rather well planned I thought. Nothing crazy happened and before we knew it we were headed back home.
The weather has been humid and warm. Everyday in the late afternoon it tries to cloud up and do something. Yesterday it just managed to squeeze out a few drops but the humidity was quite oppressive. Good to have it happen on a Sunday so that we could just ooze through it. With a little fan and light clothing it was just fine. But today it's about the same and doing things are a bit more sticky.
I'm glad Dad has this little time to recover from the last big push while Joshua was here, on the house project. He is pretty bushed and I'm sure it's this humidity that's adding to everyone's fatigue.
We are waiting for the windows now. Monday, Isaac and Ben are due to come and finish the flooring upstairs. That takes a lot of nailing and lifting all that heavy plywood sheeting overhead. So we're leaving it to the young bucks to handle. Dad will go up later and check their nailing accuracy. The bats are down to mild roar with the rafters in and the flooring cutting off their flight area. Also, it is much hotter up there now and I don't think they like it very much. Which is to our advantage. But Dad bought a whole bunch of smoke bombs during the 4th and we will use those after the windows and doors have buttoned the place up.
Dad has already plugged up most of the myriad of holes in the walls with that expanding foam that he loves. He uses it for everything, but this time I think he found a real good use for it. Later we will go over most of them with cement or a patch goop.
Saturday we found that new lumber yard over by Spring Valley and Dad bought me some short fence posts for my garden boxes...cheap. So, perhaps this week I'll get after the raised bed boxes. All in all, it was a real good weekend.

Come Along and I'll Give You a Tour...

Dad and I are getting excited. The place is really coming together so quickly. This is the front entry way. There is a nice cement porch that is abut 8'x20'. The middle opening will be the front door. The other 2 doors will not open. The third photo are the actual doors. They are pre-hung and ready to go...all we need is the crew back!

This is the kitchen area. Actually, it is turning out to be a bit bigger than I had hoped. Only one wall has been compromised a bit by a last minute wall change. The second shot is a better shot with me out of it and you can see more. It is taken from just inside the front door area looking into the building. The third shot is me standing with my hand up on the door jam of where the back-door will go. Behind me is the nice sized pantry that will house the bulk of my kitchen stuff.
